The Olympic Coast exhibit, featuring two giant Pacific octopus, was recently renovated and expanded to provide a home to many marine animals from this region of the Pacific Northwest. Their skeleton types allow them to live in either hard or soft sediments. Some kinds of oyster are commonly consumed, cooked or raw, by humans. If pressed, octopus, or ‘pulpos’ as they are known locally, shoot off using their siphons for propulsion and leaving a cloud of brown ink behind them.
